Neuroshima Hex v3.0 and HD update for Android

iphone4-01

It’s been nearly five years since we first released Neuroshima Hex and the game’s look did not really change that much over time, so we decided to do something about it.

OK, to be completely honest with you, it wasn’t a truly autonomous decision, but partly the Portal’s license requirements (they’re moving to the new v3.0 look with the “paper” edition), but anyway we tried to did our best and are quite happy with the results.

What did change? Currently only the tile and board graphics, but we’re not going to stop there! We’re working (among other features and bug fixes) on an even more consistent and immersive look – we’re probably going to tease tiny bits of it over the next weeks, so stay tuned.

Another important thing to mention is an HD update for Android version owners – now the ones with tablets can play in HD (similar to Humble Bundle’s version) with iPad like UI! The update comes as an IAP and it totally optional.

  1. Oh, thanks for HD. Will it be new armies in the future?

What about another your game – Eclipse? How soon will it be on Andoid?

  2. Adam Rynowiecki says:

With all due respect – you are “planning” Android version of Eclipse for almost 2 years now, and so far there is nothing done. I personnaly know at least 2 android developers who would like to see android port of Eclipse and are capable to do it. Please, start working on it or release the license. We want to pay you that money, why don’t you want to take it?

  3. The new update is fantastic!
Thank you for the new tiles, etc. !!
One request if it’s possible to have the choice for another alternative music background or at least to have more play time in length for the loop. I’m sorry but it kinda gets somehow boring.

  4. I must say I’m very disappointed and frustrated with the update, I just hate the 3.0 look, to me it’s a sore on the eyes – less readable and plain uglier than the original. With the tabletop game you get a choice and the 3.0 version doesn’t replace the product you’ve bought before. I’d love to have the same kind of choice here. Instead, the change is forced upon me without asking, and the game I paid for and enjoyed is gone. Is there a possibility of reverting the update on my device?

    • Łukasz Łazarecki says:

Sorry to hear that. We tried to make it more readable, all symbols and graphics are larger than the ones from v2.0.

I do understand that you’d like to have a choice of going back to the previous graphics, I really do, but due to licensing issues, this is not and won’t be possible.

      • Jesper Hellman says:

The 3.0 card design is something that i will get used to play with, nothing to bad with it even to the 2.0 tiles looked better. (could be the black border)

However the background is just a disaster makes everything look . as i feel the light gray colour clashes extremly bad with the other colours, they light background just makes the already bright/light cards almost unreadable

So how to fix it, increase the spacing of the tiles by a few pixels and have the stripes on the gameboard a lot darker. Or add a black border to all the tiles. but that would still clash badly with the current background.

TL;DR: The background is the problem its to bright.

      • Jesper Hellman says:

Ow, crap. That was a ramble and incoherent, forget my earlier message.

Here is what i meant to say, they tiles them self are fine they have a good and coherent stylish design to them, but the problem comes when you play em next to other tiles they flow into each other and they get hard to read. This is why the black border from the 1.0 and 2.0 sets was great made a clear border from the other tiles.
So adding a border back would be good but as your licensing is limited you cannot change the tiles design.

However they background just removes the color of the tiles and makes em all look blander and more washed out then they should. Due to it being to bright, this is true for the physical 3.0 version.

So what i suggest is to try and pressure the publisher to let you change they background into something darker, turning the hex grid from light gray into dark gray is a good start, but redesigning the whole game-board into something a lot darker will help the tiles pop and become a lot more vibrant and easier to read. also changing the tile spacing to be a bit wider (probably a hard thing to do) along with a darker background would make probably make me like the 3.0 tile design over 2.0

TD:LR, proof read, make the game-board a lot darker, tiles are fine.

        • +100.

Please listen to this guy. He knows what he’s talking about.

I won’t update the app any longer and I bought every single update so far. But I can see from the screenshots that the User Experience will be worse than the old version. And the problem is not the design of the tiles itself, but the design of the board.

      • Portal guys say there is no licensing problem, and they have no problem with the old graphics being used alongside the new ones (eg. as an option).
So why not doing that ?

  5. Hi. Just want report a issue that a module “Officer II” in “The Hegemony” still remain the 2.0 texture. And thank you for your hard work.

  6. Any chance for a sale on expansions?

  7. So the elephant in the room…

Is multiplayer in yet? It’s only been how many years now we’ve been asking for it on Android?

  8. Is there any chance of having Neuroshima Hex released for Windows 10?

  9. Is there a way to revert to the previous look? Sorry to say it, but this is horrible and inconvinient.

    • It is not developers fault. It is tabletop design :( I Prefer 2.0 in tabletop and on my iPad. But it is strange to hear “I do understand that you’d like to have a choice of going back to the previous graphics, I really do, but due to licensing issues, this is not and won’t be possible.” It is too STRICT license i think. As tabletop gamer i can choose between 2.0 and 3.0. Why i can’t have the choice in digital version.

  10. I’m also rather sad to see the 3.0 look replace the superior 2.0 look. And I find the reason the license required it bizarre. Portal supports both graphic designs with the physical version. Why would they not allow that on the digital version?

  11. Tiles you presented are a mix of 2.5 and 3.0. Will you use the actual 3.0 paper version graphics for the tiles or it will remain as a hybrid? Take a look here how the tiles and the board really look http://neuroshimahex.pl/news/recenzja-neuroshima-hex-3-0/ .

  12. I found a bug: undo does not work in online multiplayer (it works fine in Pass and Play). If you accidently click on a army you’re placing, you’re not able to rotate it. It’s easy to do on phones and tablets. You should be able to undo the last army placed in case it was misplaced.

Also agree with Jesper above, there shoulde be more space between the tiles, and the board should be darker. The old tiles had a big black border, but since this is gone in the new version, it can look a little messy when the tiles are so close to each other.

Any plans to update NH Puzzle? I would love to see some puzzles with the new armies.

  13. Apart from forcing me to play a game i did not buy, and the sore excuse of licensing, there is a terrible display bug:
whenever the tablet is not totally horizontal, the screen rotates and rotates continuously (the game i bought did not have this bug :p ).
HW: samsung galxy note 10.1 2014 edition

  14. Is this update avilible in the Humble Bundle version?

  15. Do not know if it is only happening to me, but after update on iPod to 3.0 all my purchased expansions are gone. I cannot even express how frustrating that is…

  16. Hello

I downloaded tha latest update yesterday, but from this point does not work the HD expnasion what I bought earlier (that was perfect before the latest update).
The message is on the screen:
    XAPK File Validation Faild
    0MB/0MB
I waited a long time, but nothing happends.
    Looks like, something wrong.
    Device: Asus K010
    Andorid: 4.4.2

    Please, fix this bug!
    Thank You!
    Gabor

  17. I looked for a place to report a bug, but there doesn’t seem to be a better place than the comment section of a post.
The bug is related to the long distance modules of Doomsday Machine. These modules don’t always properly confer their bonus to units 2 hexes away from the module connection (i.e. adjacent to the hex the module is connected to).

  18. Hej.

Gierka świetna i wciągajaca. Gramy z kumplami i na planszy i na smartfoniach. Często korzystamy z wersji elektronicznej by przenieść sytuację na plansze.
    Pozdrawiam
    Sławek

    Hi.
The game great and addictive. Playing with my friends and on the board and smartfoniach. Often we use the electronic version to move the situation on the boards.
It was established, however, a small problem – hence my question:
Is there a chance that during the game, the player decided that the chips will draw (as if it drew on the board and introduced a draw for smartphone)?
Sometimes there are problems that are difficult to resolve (have to rummage the instructions / forums) and it is not always on time. Leading the game on the board using a mobile would ensure that we act in accordance with the rules of the game.
    Regards
    Slawek

  19. Kindly include in your future update additional armies and game types included in the rule book. One example is the three player game where the headquarters do not have Life points. Attack instead are counted as points. Whoever reach twenty first wins the game.
